![AC Milan v UC Sampdoria - Serie A Giacomo Bonaventura]()
Today marks one of the days where football has finally returned to our calendar, making our routines seem normal again after a starved summer.
However, there was some medal winning Olympic action to also keep us entertained whilst there was even an Italy friendly taking place just over a week away from September.
1989 - Current
AC Milan star Giacomo Bonaventura was born in San Severino Marche. He started his career with the club he'd play for for eight years before the Rossoneri came calling -
Atalanta. It was at Atalanta that he made his debut for Italy, further convincing Milan to shell out €7 million for his services in 2014. Since then, he has matured in leaps and bounds and become one of Milan's undisputed key players.
2007 - A strong looking Italy squad fell to a disappointing 3-1 defeat against Hungary in this friendly match. The Ferenc Puskas Stadion in Budapest hosted, with the home crowd watching Antonio Di Natale give the Azzurri the lead. However, three goals in 15 minutes in the second half turned the tie on its head, and ended Italy's six match unbeaten run.
2008 - Italy won one of each of all the medals at the Olympic Games in Beijing - winning a bronze, silver and gold in three separate sports. In a new Olympic Record, Alex Schwazer won the men's 50 kilometre walk, with a duo of Andrea Facchin and Antonio Scaduto winning a bronze in 1000 metre K-2 canoeing. Not to be overlooked, Mauro Sarmiento lost in the taekwondo final but claimed a silver for his efforts.
2015 - A rocket from Alessandro Florenzi spared
Roma's blushes on the opening day of the new
Serie A season. In a surprising turn of events
Hellas Verona looked by far the sharper and more match fit side, taking the lead through Bosko Jankovic. Florenzi, though, took aim from quite some distance and claimed a point for Roma but didn't do much to calm the nerves in the capital.
